September 14th – Peaks of Otter

Better get a post in before all the others get back and the bandwidth disappears!

Arrived at Peaks of Otter Lodge yesterday via Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway.

A traditional kind of National Park Services Lodge. Good rooms, good food and a nice location. The attraction here used to be no phones, TV or Internet. The new management has provided WiFi (sort of) and in-room tv. Now we have all the old folks going to their room at night and listening at their normal volume – we could watch tv last night with the sound off and still hear clearly from the room next door! Not an improvement. The surroundings are still great and most else stays great.

This morning we went up to the top of Sharptop, one of the three Peaks of Otter. From 3800 feet up on a clear day a very fine view.

View from Sharptop – we think looking north east

Made it all the way up the 1500 foot hike from the bus!

On the way down to the Blue Ridge we stopped at the Gettysburg Civil War Museum

We also went through Front Royal, Virginia

“I walked up to the brakeman to give him a line of talk – he said if you got the money I’ll see that you don’t walk” (Name that tune)

Through the Skyline Drive from Front Royal with an overnight at the Skyland Resort to the start of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

And last but not least:

Until the next bandwidth opportunity – M&M.
