October 1 2018 – Tubingen, Germany

Finally, a good connection. The boat internet uses a satellite link and that does not work at all well with updating the blog.

The old town of Tubingen along the Neckar River.

Yesterday disembarked from the boat and picked up a car at the Hauptbahnhof in Vienna for the drive to Tubingen (near Stuttgart) in Germany 650 km away. Departed around 10am arrived 6:30pm. After escaping the Sunday morning traffic of Vienna most of the distance spent on the Autobahn – except for a Garmin moment early on. I switched from motorcycle mode to car mode and forgot the settings I had were different, we spent half an hour on twisty back roads avoiding the highway until I figured it out and fixed the settings.

Autobahn good! Most of the time…except when it stops.

A lot of unlimited sections where our Hyundai hybrid manged to cruise between 150 and 160 km/h while avoiding speeding Beemers and Audis coming up at 200 or so.

A nice cruise back down the Danube from Passau to Vienna. A couple of low bridges at locks where the top deck had to be cleared and all the stuff lowered to clear the bridge. The pilot house and bar on the upper deck retract into the boat and the sunshades and railings lie down flat.

Arriving at Tubingen we checked in at the Hotel Krone and went walking about the old town today.

The town Hall and market square.

Brave souls punting on the river – very unstable looking boats.

We must have pastries and coffee.

A bicycle counter.

Bicycles everywhere.

The old town is well preserved and very active.

The Stiftskirche is a plain style – well preserved.

Meanwhile we check out the kitchen store.
